Effrossyni (Effie) Fragkou is an Associate Professor of Interpreting Studies in the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece (Government Gazette 2831/11-06-2026), specialising in the theory of interpreting with competence in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting from English  into Greek. She also holds an affiliation with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), where she has taught since 2017, including on the MA in Translation and Interpreting since 2020, and serves as a Teaching Fellow at the University of West Attica. From 2012 to 2025, she lectured on Healthcare Interpreting at York University's Glendon College in Toronto.

Effie Fragkou holds a PhD in Philosophy (Translation Studies and Canadian Studies) from the University of Ottawa, an MA in Theory of Translation from York University's Glendon College, and an MA in Trilingual Professional/Technical Translation from ITIRI, Université Strasbourg II. Her doctoral research examined the retranslation of Plato's Republic and its role in shaping political and philosophical discourse in modern Greece.

A researcher and practising interpreter with two decades of experience in public service and medical interpreting, terminology, and technology-enhanced education, her current research centres on multimodal assessment, interpreter training, the professionalisation of community/public service interpreting, and mental-health interpreting in refugee settings through the M-THRIVE project. She has been a National Expert to ISO TC 37/SC 5 (Translation, Interpreting and Related Technology) since 2017 and a member of the ELOT/TE 21 Technical Committee since 2021, contributing to the adaptation of ISO standards within the Greek regulatory framework. She co-edited the Handbook of Research on Medical Interpreting (IGI Global, 2020) and has published extensively, including in the International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication.

Between 2023 and 2024, she contributed to the National Registry of Public Service Interpreters, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, the Ionian University, and the Norwegian Agency for Integration (IMDi). She served on the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Translators Association (2020–2024) and is a member of the European Civil Society Platform for Multilingualism and of NKUA's Research Institute "Multilingualism and Language Policy." A trilingual practitioner in English, French, and Greek, Dr Fragkou has worked as a community and healthcare interpreter in Ottawa, Toronto, and Athens since 2002. She has translated numerous books across several academic and cultural domains, and serves on the National Scientific Committee of the journal Noêma.
