Course Details:

In this course we examine issues regarding the inclusion of translation in the group of text sciences and translation’s association to linguistics (especially text linguistics and sociolinguistics) and philosophy of language. We examine issues on internationally used terminology and types of equivalence and synonyms. We investigate the origins of translation as a cognitive process in Plato’s Cratylus, Aristotle’s Peri Ermineias (On Interpretation), in Dionysius of Halicarnassus’ Peri Syntheseos ton Onomaton (On the Arrangement of Words) and in Cicero’s De Oratore.
