IJLTIC: Special Issue on Public Service Interpreting: Paving the Way to Social Justice Through Professionalization |

The International Journal of The International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication presents the Special Issue on Public Service Interpreting: Paving the Way to Social Justice Through Professionalization, which brings together internationally recognized experts examining how public service interpreting shapes access to rights, equity, and social justice in contemporary multilingual societies. Through empirically grounded and theoretically informed articles, the volume addresses key topics such as quality assurance, interpreter accreditation, testing and assessment, ethics, training, and the design of national registers, offering comparative insights from different countries and institutional settings.
Building on this broad international dialogue, the special issue is rooted in a concrete policy initiative: the design and implementation of the Greek Public Service Interpreter Register. Developed through collaboration between the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University and the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, and supported by EEA Grants, the project responds to persistent systemic challenges in the Greek asylum and migration context. The special issue thus not only documents cutting-edge research but also reflects critically on how institutional reforms and structured accreditation systems can professionalize PSI and enhance social justice in public services.
