Methodology of Writing Academic TextsThe aim of the course is to familiarise students with bibliographic research methods and the fundamental principles of academic writing. It also examines the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in bibliographic research, with an emphasis on critically evaluating AI-generated information and avoiding practices that undermine academic integrity.
Upon successful completion of the seminar, students will be able to:
- formulate and implement advanced search strategies to locate information and academic literature on a specific topic
- conduct searches in bibliographic databases and digital libraries
- evaluate the reliability, validity, and relevance of information and academic sources
- organise and synthesise information from different academic sources to develop a well-supported literature review
- compile bibliographic references and apply APA referencing and citation rules
- use reference management tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools critically and in accordance with the principles of academic integrity.
According to the Indicative Study Programme, this seminar lasts 2–4 weeks.
Week 1:
Course introduction.
First encounter with an academic article. Structure and components of a research paper.
Basic MS Word functions:
- Table of contents
- Research paper chapters and sections
- Section breaks
- Page numbering
Fundamental principles of academic writing, with reference to cohesion and coherence.
Week 2:
- Brief presentation on the fundamental principles of literature review design.
- Sources for searching academic literature.
- Inserting bibliographic references using MS Word.
- Introduction to Mendeley reference management software. Workshop.
Week 3:
Artificial Intelligence in bibliographic research. Responsible use, critical evaluation of AI-generated information, and avoidance of practices that undermine academic integrity.
Introduction to NotebookLM.
Week 4:
Revision and summary of the topics covered in the first three sessions. Review of students’ assignments. Awarding of certificates of successful completion.

The course is not graded. Successful completion is determined by students’ active participation in the sessions.
