Short Description:

The course is ‘laboratory-oriented’, i.e. it is based on the students’ active participation in translation process. During this semester, the teaching procedure is conducted as designed and implemented in the previous semester, while studying however more difficult texts whereas as far as the Greek-French translation is concerned, the students are gradually initiated to the process of translating the modern Greek literary text into the French language both via an approach and an elaboration of the translated texts – plays but also novels—and via translating practices of non-translated texts into French.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

The course is ‘laboratory -oriented’, i.e. it is based on the students’ active participation in translation process. During this semester the teaching course of the previous semester continues with literary texts with higher degree of difficulty. There is a gradual initiation into the process of adapting the modern Greek literary text into French by critically processing existing translations, which are mainly theatrical plays and novels, and by translating texts that have not been translated into French yet. Here, as in the previous semester, we examine texts with higher degree of difficulty, which are adapted into French by our trainee students (and future literary translators). The students will encounter a lot of translation challenges while translating the texts, except for the bilingual ones. Our choice to include theatrical plays and novels in this curriculum is not random but serves the pedagogical aim of presenting challenging texts to students, while offering the teacher the opportunity to mention to a series of interesting literary phenomena (idiolect, vernacular/folk language, wishes, curses, customs, traditions etc.).
