The following topics are approached and analysed in the course: Modernity: Symbols and myths, basic characteristics of the Renaissance, Renaissance art, the "Scientific Revolution", Humanism, Enlightenment, modern philosophical texts (Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, Hobbes, Kant), the French absolutism, the rise of the bourgeoisie, the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, diplomatic and political texts (19th-20th centuries). ), art (painting, sculpture, 17th-20th century), from the emancipation of man to the consumerism of the ephemeral, modern ethics, the secular society, capitalism, the modern legal system, universalism and multiculturalism
The aim of the course is to help those who take it to create a mental map, based on conventional chronology by centuries, which will provide a framework for receiving information about European culture in early modernity. As it is aimed at translators, emphasis is placed on the importance of understanding the historical nature of the terms of political, fiscal, monetary, economic history and specific glossaries are provided.
