Short Description:

Francophone literartures (former: French literature II)

(in French)

The courses studies the period from the XVIth to the XVIIIth and focuses on Montaigne, Agrippa d'Aubigné, the three great theartical names of the XVIIth and Voltaire. The texts are examined from the point of view of the évolution of the French language, the new poetical forms and the enrichment of the subject-matters under the influence of the classical antiquity. In the same time the students are invited to listen to excerpts from theatrical productions and compare the different interprations and ways of declamation.

This course and the course on “The civilization of French speaking countries” (former “French Literature II”) are conceived of as a unit. Their aim is to help familirize those who take them with some aspects of the French history and culture.
