Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

• know aspects of Modern Greek Prose
• be aware of literary criticism
• recognize authors, literary genres, works etc.
• evaluate specific titles, topics etc.

Weeks 1 & 2: Introduction to the 1960s.

Weeks 2, 3 & 4: Rewriting History: Stratis Tsirkas, Dimitris Chatzis, Andreas Fragkias, Thanassis Valtinos.

Weeks 5 & 6: The Angry Youth of Greek Prose: Marios Chakkas, Antonis Samarakis, Renos Apostolidis, Vassilis Vassilikos, Menis Koumantareas, Spyros Plaskovitis.

Weeks 7 & 8: The “Low Voices”: Yorgos Ioannou, Kostas Tachtsis.

Weeks 9 & 10: Deviations from Realism.

Weeks 11 & 12: Prose during the Dictatorship (1967-74).

Week 13: Conclusions.
