Short Description:

 

The material of these seminars will cover the History of Europe from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century. An attempt will be made to approach and analyze the economic, social, political and legal conditions that led to the most important events of this period, using official sources-documents of the time, as well as the relevant literature. Some of the topics analysed during the seminar are as follows: Carolingian Renaissance, commercial activity, factors and production methods during the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, reasons for development and policies of Italian cities, Renaissance, Industrial Revolution, Napoleonic period, etc. This seminar will be of significant benefit to the students of the Department, and help them undestand the political and social transformations during the course of history.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

 

Upon the end of this seminar, students will be able to:

  • Present and analyze historical issues of Europe, in order to achieve knowledge, familiarity, understanding and consolidation.
  • Use historical economic and legal concepts in different contexts.
  • Develop the ability to comment on historical texts.
  • Develop the ability to evaluate historical issues.
  • Acquire competence in the use and utilization of historical knowledge during the execution of the translation project. ​

  • International Treaties and Diplomacy during the 19th century
  • Economic, political and social transformations in a long-term historical approach.

Evaluation Methods:

 

Assignment: analysis of terms, concepts, thematic fields, events. In addition, optional assignments are assigned on topics relevant to the course material (European area –5th-21st century–). In this case, a PowerPoint presentation of the work in the classroom is mandatory.
