Paraskevi Gene is an accomplished professional in the field of translation and localization, specializing in machine translation post-editing (MTPE). With a strong academic background and extensive industry experience, she has significantly contributed to the advancement of AI-based translation technologies.
Her professional journey spans over two decades, beginning as a translator in 2003. She has worked with various language pairs, including English, French, Spanish, and Greek, across diverse sectors such as EU affairs, marketing, legal, IT, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. In her early roles, she focused on vendor management and quality assurance, where she developed and implemented workflows and quality management processes.
In 2018, she assumed the position of Director of Language Services at Intertranslations, creating comprehensive frameworks for language services, including MTPE and machine translation evaluation. Her role involved managing multilingual MTPE projects, developing relationships with international clients, and presenting new translation technologies at international conferences.
As the CEO of GTH Translation & Content in 2022, she focused on strategic planning and business development, optimizing processes and leading an international localization team. Under her leadership, the company delivered high-quality linguistic solutions and achieved strong customer satisfaction. She also participated in industry events to promote emerging trends in translation and localization.
In 2023, she took on the role of Head of Partnerships at the translation technology company Bureau Works, where she developed significant partnerships with the academic community, businesses, linguists, and artificial intelligence engineers to advance innovations in AI-based translation technology.
Recently, in her role as Head of Translation Solutions Innovation at Intertranslations, she has been contributing to the corporate restructuring of translation services by implementing pioneering AI-based translation technology solutions.
She is a member of GALA and serves on its Board of Directors. As the founder of the GALA MTPE Training SIG, she collaborated with co-founder Lucia Guerrero, Machine Translation Manager at Expedia, on an initiative to bring together translators, translation companies, academics, and translation service buyers. Through this collaboration, they compiled and published the Machine Translation Post-Editing Protocol, a framework for machine translation training aimed at educating the translation market.
Beyond her professional roles, she actively participates in the academic community.
Her doctoral dissertation, which she began in December 2020, examines how training can reduce workload and improve post-editing quality for professional translators. The research addresses training challenges faced by language service providers, translators, and the academic community, with the goal of establishing best practices in MTPE training.
She is a member of the Hellenic Association of Translation Studies, has given lectures at universities abroad in her area of expertise, and is currently teaching Translation of European Texts at Hellenic American College.
She has scientific publications on MTPE to her credit, highlighting its role in the translation industry, the necessary skills and abilities for translators, and optimal workflows. Her work addresses skepticism towards MTPE and emphasizes the need for specialized guidelines and training.
