Lorandou Publications (Corfu) published the translation of senior European Commission official Jimmy Jamar’s work: “Letters to Byron: reflections on Greece of yesterday, of today, of tomorrow”, accomplished by Michalis Politis, Associate Professor, DFLTI.

The Collective Volume "Citizenship in Transition – New Perspectives on Transnational Migration from the Middle East to Europe" (Ed.: Αnnemarie Profanter & Francis Owtram) in which Assistant Professor Sotirios Livas participated with the 6th chapter: 'Xenophobia, Alienation, Heterotopias and Cultural Limits: Fictional Boundaries of the Athens Pakistani and Afghani Communities', has become the Cambridge Scholars Publishing “Book of the Month” for October 2015.

Anastasia Parianou, Associate Professor, is participating in VISTAC – Science and Technology Visuals in Translation organized by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) (http://act.nmt.edu/humanizingtechnology/cluster-i/visualizing-science-and-technology-across-cultures-vistac/vistac-science-and-technology-visuals-in-translation/ http://act.nmt.edu/humanizingtechnology/cluster-i/researchers/).

The DFLTI Interpreting Studies sector organized on 27/2/2015 a presentation-discussion in collaboration with the Corfu Bar Association on the topic of “Court Interpreting: Practical problems and potential solutions” with speakers: Zoi Resta and Anastasios Ioannidis, members of the DFLTI interpreting teaching staff, Panagiotis Alevantis, Head of Representation, European Commission Representation in Greece, and Marianna Asimakopoulou, Syn-eirmos Social Solidarity NGO-“Babel” Day Center. The presentation-discussion took place at the Function Hall of the Corfu Bar Association at the Corfu courthouse.

A 10 hour course on the Finnish language was offered gratis at the DFLTI (14-21 November 2014) by Ms Maria Martzoukou, philologist and translator of Finnish literature.

The members of the teaching staff, Zoi Resta and Anastasios Ioannidis, received the Best PhD Student Paper Award at the international conference on translation and interpreting TRANSLATA II of the University of Innsbruck (1/11/2014) for their paper titled: "The transposition of Directive 2010/64/EU and legal, institutional and actual deficiencies of court interpreting in Greece".

Vilelmini Sosoni, Lecturer, became one of the three members of an Ionian University group (the other two being K. Kermanidou, Lecturer, and D. Tsoumakos, Assistant Professor, both from the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University) to succeed in securing funding within the framework of the programme Horizon2020 for a submitted proposal. Out of a total budget of 3 million Euros available for this programme, 400,000 euros will be allotted to the Ionian University and the two Departments. The submitted proposal pertains to machine translation in the context of the Massive Open Online Courses in more than 10 European and BRIC languages.

The External Evaluation Report by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency for the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University has been published.

The new book of William Mallinson entitled The Same Things Return with Different Colours is already published.

Paschalis Nikolaou, Lecturer, published three poems in the Turkish poetry journal Şiirden (July-August 2013, issue 18, p.46, www.siirden.net/dergi/2013/18).

The anthology entitled Narratives of Risk: Interdisciplinary Studies ‒ Narrative des Risikos. Interdisziplinäre Beiträge was co-edited by Anastasia Parianou, Associate Professor at the Ionian University, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI), and academics from the Østfold University College (Norway).
