Short Description:

Τhe course is almost entirely devoted to Shakespeare. Are studied Othello, Midummernight's Dream, King Lear and Hamlet. In the last three courses are studied Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The texts are read both in the original and in greek translations. Some instructions concerning Shakespeare's language, his ambiguity and the great variety of his characters are given in order to facilitate this first contact of the students with him. They are then asked to think by themselves on the texts and write two essays.

Taking into account that the course is offered in a Translation Department, the students are invited to compare different Greek translations in order to familiarize themselves with different historical contexts, different translating strategies and to evaluate them.
