The present seminar locates and analyzes the political, social and cultural parametres that are "hidden" behind the news as appeared in Turkish newspapers, webpages and other sources. The students are required to have a good mastery of Turkish language and to have attented and eamined at least at one of the following courses: "Turkey: Culture and Society", "Turkey: Language, Culture and Society".
This seminar works as a supplement to the “prerequisite” courses and aims at offering a more “deep” knowledge to the students regarding of the information already obtained. Also, the seminar focuses on a better critical approach of the mentioned information so as the students to be able to use it as a “tool” in translation and/or in their possible postgraduate studies.
The students learn to collect and analyze complex data critically but always in relation to the information given to them during the educational procedure. The seminar’s main target is the promotion of free thought and of the creative and deductive way of thinking.

Face to face. The Seminar is of interactive nature during which texts from Media in general, are presented, analyzed and criticized.
After the assignment of projects, that relate to the translation and analysis of specific fragments from the Media and which have to do with specific subjects during a given time-period, the students present gradually their research outcomes so as a environment for discussion and criticism to be created.
The use of new technologies focuses on the presentation of powerpoints, videos and interviews that are relevant to the material taught.
No evaluation is provided since this course provides 0 credits.
