Short Description:

 

The course focuses on the economic and legal analysis of texts (published primary archival material or bibliography) of different categories of legal acts: employment contracts, project contracts, company recommendations, loans, mortgage recommendations, wills, bequests, etc., mainly in Greece (16-21st centuries). Issues that are discussed and analysed during the seminar are as follows: development of the employment relationships, economic and social conditions for concluding legal transactions, subject of legal transactions, profile of parties, transactional customs, formal and special clauses, etc.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

 

Upon the end of this seminar, students will be able to:

  • Better understand specific texts related to civil law.
  • Systematically present and analyze legal terminology in order to achieve knowledge, familiarity, understanding and consolidation.
  • Develop the ability to comment on legal texts.
  • Develop skills for the utilization of the total acquired knowledge during the execution of the translation project.

Evaluation Methods:

 

Assignment: analysis of terms, concepts, thematic fields, events. In addition, optional assignments are assigned on topics relevant to the course material (European area –5th-21st century–). In this case, a PowerPoint presentation of the work in the classroom is mandatory.
