Short Description:

Students make use of their knowledge in the French language acquired by the courses of previous semesters and gain better skills in order to be able to handle the translation challenges posed by the texts offered.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

To provide students with a strong foundation in French language so that they can easily cope with translational difficulties.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • Understand French texts and interpret them in order to conduct accurate translations
  • Recognize the specific characteristics of different kinds of texts
  • conduct fluent translations
  • approach critically and contrast the Greek and the French language and comprehend the structures of both languages

build up their knowledge gained from the lesson “Translation Greek- English I &II” of the previous semesters

Syllabus:

1st week: Introduction to translation from Greek to French.
In the first lesson, an approach to the difficulties of the translation act from the source language, namely the Greek to the target language, i.e. the French, is made. At the end of the course students are given the text they will have to translate.

2nd week: Analysis of students' work, correction of errors, explanations and conclusion to a final reliable translation of the original text.
