In this course, the students approach theoretical and practical translational peculiarities of specialized Spanish texts and of the Spanish (legal and scientific) terminology. Texts of various levels of difficulty are selected according to the abilities of the students. Machine translation tools are utilized during the translation process to familiarize students with diverse working environments. The use of artificial intelligence is not involved at any stage of the translation task.

Upon completion of the course, students:

• will have become familiar with translating various types of texts from Spanish into Greek, including legal and medical texts, and will be able to understand key concepts and terminology;
• will be able to identify, analyze, and describe the challenges that arise when translating specialized Spanish texts and to address them appropriately by selecting from the various strategies at their disposal;
• will be familiar with professional practice, as well as with the resources and tools available online.

Translation of a European Union text.

Translation of a Legal Text II (Tax Residence Certificate).

Week 4:

Translation of a Legal Text III (Criminal Record).

Week 5:

Translation of a journalistic text.

Week 6:

Translation of a historical text.

Week 7:

Translation of an art-related text.

Week 8:

Translation of a medical text.

Week 9:

Translation of a pharmaceutical text.

Week 10:

Translation of a technical text.

Week 11:

Poetry translation.

Week 12:

Literary Translation I.

The course takes the form of a lecture-workshop. It relies heavily on dialogue with the students, as well as their participation and feedback. Key concepts are discussed and practical exercises in translating a variety of specialized texts are carried out, with reference to relevant theory.
