Short Description:

The course "Translation German-Greek IV" is a practical “laboratory” course based on interactive teaching. It is the culmination in the field of general translation and the students are called to translate texts of general interest with an increased difficulty and specialized terminology.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
• perceive the translation as a way of communication
• understand the translation process and to apply the appropriate technique
• look for sources of information related to the topic
• correspond to the specialized terminology used in the text
• recognize language peculiarities and specific cultural data
• be flexible to take decisions in problem solving during the translation process
• adapt the language level according to the readership to which the text is addressed

Syllabus:

1st week: Presentation text of a painting exhibition

2nd week: Newspaper article about the musical Carmen la Cubana

3rd week: Epicurus: Philosophical text

4th week: Immanuel Kant: Philosophical text

5th week: Karl Marx: Economic philosophy

6th week: Phobias: Psychology text

7th week: Memory: Psychology text

8th week: Memory: Medical text

9th week: Respiratory disease: Medical text

10th week: Covid-19: Medical text

11th week: Logic: Physics text by Gerd Binnig

12th week: Ice-cream machine: Manual: Technical text

13th week: Summary, questions, discussion and critique

The texts to be translated vary from semester to semester.
