The aim of the course is to examine further the theory and praxis of consecutive interpreting and to introduce the students to simultaneous interpreting. In particular, students practice further their skills in consecutive interpreting with the use of specialized texts and speeches. In addition, they become familiar with the equipment of the interpreting booth, improve their short-term working memory, are introduced to the techniques of simultaneous interpreting, sight-translation, chuchotage, learn how to use the appropriate language register, obtain automatic reactions and reflexes, manage their voice, practice conference preparation, objectivity and dealing with unexpected circumstances. Regarding group work, self-study and preparation, students are taught the way to evaluate critically the available information resources for the purposes of their research, to study in groups by using their own recorded speeches, to extract vocabulary, to manage terminology and prepare conference glossaries. Teaching is organized according to original material and speeches concerning local and international current affairs.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able:

● to know and apply in practice the techniques and skills of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
● to present themselves and speak in front of an audience
● to research and prepare themselves for an interpreting task
