With a focus on communication, this course introduces students to the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture. Vocabulary, grammar, phonology, comprehension, and language production are explored in context to help students participate in social interactions in Portuguese.

Throughout the course, students will expand their knowledge of Brazilian culture by exploring eating habits and traditional dishes. Students will also read about famous Brazilian athletes who have competed in the Olympic Games.

Topic 1: A cidade e a casa

Onde fica?: directions, city vocabulary, adverbs, prepositions, informal imperative. 

Minha casa, minha vizinhança: describing places, expressing preference, house vocabulary. 

Topic 2: Culinária brasileira

Hábitos alimentares: Brazilian cuisine, comparing eating habits, ordering food in restaurants, conditionals. 

Topic 3: Brasileiros/as nas Olimpíadas

Brasileiros/as nas Olimpíadas: biography of Brazilian athletes, sports, comparatives and superlatives, simple past.
