Course Details:

This course is an introduction to literary translation; we begin by studying those particular features and creative uses of language that define a literary text. The aim at this level is to trace the translator’s choices and consider the constraints and re-creative possibilities inherent in an exceptionally multifaceted process; a better understanding of the wealth of approaches to literary translation through the ages as well as of the close relationship between theory and practice. During this semester we will engage with a range of texts (prose, poetry, drama) produced by English-speaking authors.
