The Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) offers PhD studies in areas that fall within its institutional research interests. In summary, the candidates, depending on their interests, may choose one of the four broader cognitive areas for the topic, according to the call of interest published twice a year: a) Translation b) Interpreting c) Culture-Intercultural Relations-Cultural Heritage-International Relations Politics-Law and Economy d) Philosophy.

Collaborations with foreign universities
DFLTI has signed exclusive memoranda of collaboration with many European universities regarding PhD co-supervision in joint Doctorates. These include the following universities:

- PhD Thesis Proposal
- Master’s degree with official transcript [the degree must be accompanied by Recognition Act of DOATAP/NARIC > National Academic Recognition Information Centre), if obtained in a non-Greek University which is not listed in the National Registry of Foreign Recognised Higher Education Institutions].
- University Degree (first degree) with official transcript
- Excellent knowledge of at least one official language of the European Union, preferably English
- A recommendation letter from academic staff, which can either be submitted by the applicant, each in closed and sealed envelope, or sent directly by the recommender by post or email to the Secretariat of the program or of the Department.
- Copies of previous research papers/assignments (if any)
