The Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) at the Ionian University in Greece and the European Commission co-organise an online Translating Europe Workshop (TEW) on Tuesday, October 8 2024 under the title "AI Τranslation vs Ηuman Τranslation: Τraining Perspectives and the Impact on the Translation Profession".

Topic of the workshop

Translation is naturally heavily dependent on technology. However, as technological innovation, and especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), advance at an unprecedented rate, translation becomes increasingly technologized and this impacts the nature of translation per se, the job profiles that emerge and the competences that translators should have in order to meet these job requirements. This TEW will attempt an in-depth exploration of the complex field of AI and its profound implications for professional translation and translator training. The workshop will delve into the theoretical and practical challenges that AI poses for the professional translator, promoting a nuanced understanding of the evolving landscape. Through interactive discussions, the aim is to explore and address key issues that arise when navigating the transformative intersection of technology and language in the AI era.
