Short Description:

This course introduces students to the principles and practices of intercultural communication pertaining to international relations. It looks at how the cultural dimensions and intercultural models covered during the “Intercultural Communication” course can be applied to international relations. The notion of intercultural awareness and its importance in an international relations context is highlighted. Students are introduced to the notion of conflict, how it unfolds, its stages and how it is resolved. In addition, the notions “leadership” and “leader” as key components in international relations are investigated. Finally, the course considers approaches to dealing with and managing diversity.

Objectives - Learning Results:

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  • more adequately understand how culture influences international relations
  • cultivate their intercultural communication competence in international relations
  • understand intercultural conflict, its stages and resolution
  • understand the characteristics of a successful leader and of successful leadership
  • understand the special characteristics of diversity management

  • Group Assignment-Oral Presentation: 40%
