The Center for Language and Politics was established in 2015 and is one of the five research laboratories of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) of Ionian University.
Objective
The Center aims to:
- Conduct and publish primary and secondary research
- Organize conferences, scientific workshops, lectures, and seminars
- Participate in research programs and present findings to public and private bodies, both nationally and internationally
- Collaborate with other related scientific centers, institutes, and university departments in Greece and abroad
- Support the completion of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral research projects by DFLTI students.
Research Focus
The Center’s research is structured around three main pillars:
- The use of language and all forms of verbal and non-verbal communication for political (in the broad sense) purposes
- Language policies, which may include educational policies, control of minority languages, homogenization, creation of new dialects, etc.
- Diachronic study of European and non-European languages as "vehicles" of cultural assets.
