Vilelmini Sosoni is an Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University in Greece where she currentp;y serves as Associate Head. She has taught Specialised Translation in the United Kingdom at the University of Surrey, the University of Westminster, Roehampton University and the University of Wolverhampton, and in Greece at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Metropolitan College and the Institut Français d’ Athènes. She also has extensive professional experience having worked as a translator, editor and subtitler. She studied English Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Trinlingual Translation at the University of Starsbourg and holds an MA in Translation and a PhD in Translation and Text Linguistics from the University of Surrey. Her research interests lie in the areas of Language Technology and Machine Translation, Translation of Institutional and Political Texts, Corpus Linguistics, as well as Audiovisual Translation and Accessibility. She is, among others, the Secretary of Asling (International Association for Advancement in Language Technology), the Vice-President of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies, a founding member of the Laboratory Language and Politics of the Ionian University and the Greek Chapter of Women in Localization, the, a researcher in the Hellenic OCR Team and a member of the Advisory Board and the Management Board of the European Master’s in Technology for Translation and Interpreting (EM TTI) funded by Erasmus+. She is one of the chairs of the New Trends in Translation and Technology (NeTTT) and Translating and the Computer conferences. She has participated in several EU-funded projects, notably Resonant, Resonant+, Trumpet, TraMOOC, Eurolect Observatory and was the coordinator at the Ionian University of the project Training Action for Legal Practitioners: Linguistic Skills and Translation in EU Competition Law. She has edited several volumes and books on translation and published numerous articles in international journals and collective volumes.
George Mikros before assuming his Professor position at the MA Program of Digital Humanities at HBKU, he was Professor of Computational and Quantitative Linguistics at the University of Athens Greece. He is the director of the Computational Stylistics lab. He is also Adj. Professor at the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, USA. He had the position of Research Associate at the Institute for Language and Speech Processing and he was part of research groups that have developed significant language resources and NLP tools for Modern Greek. Since 1999 holds the position of Teaching Associate at the Hellenic Open University and since 2016 he is the Director of the Undergraduate Program “Spanish Language and Culture”. Prof. Mikros has authored 5 monographs and more than 80 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. Since 2007 he has been elected as Member of the Council of the International Association of Quantitative Linguistics (IQLA). In 2018 he was elected its President. He is a keynote speaker and invited speaker in many international conferences, workshops and summer schools related to Digital Humanities and Quantitative Linguistics. His main research interests are computational stylistics, quantitative linguistics, computational linguistics, and forensic linguistics.
Kelly Polychroniou is Master Lecturer in Modern Greek and Head of the Modern Greek Language Program in the Department of Classical Studies at Boston University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature from the University of Athens and a Masters of Arts in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in computer-assisted instruction and foreign language pedagogy from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. She is a PhD Candidate at the University of Ioannina in the Department of Linguistics. Her research focuses on Large Language Models in Teaching of Modern Greek as a Foreign Language: A Mixed Methods Approach. She has taught in a variety of educational settings including Tufts University, Boston University, UMass Boston, Northeastern University, the Goethe Institut, the Boston Language Institute, and the American College of Greece, leading and designing courses in all levels of German and Greek. In 2012 she founded the Boston University Philhellenes Project, an organization which promotes the appreciate of Greek language and culture from antiquity to the present day; as part of this project Ms. Polychroniou takes about twenty students to Greece each summer to participate in the BUPh Summer Study at the American College of Greece and this Summer, 2022 she co-organized with Study in Greece, the organization that works for the internalization of Greek Universities abroad, the Voyage into Greek Civilization Summer Program together with the Kapodistrian University of Athens, the BA in Archaeology, History and Literature. In the spring of 2019 she received the award in Greek Culture from the EXALEIPTRON women’s organization in Athens and in March 2018 she was featured in the Gynaika section of the Greek National Herald.
Vasilis Manousakis is a short-story writer, poet, and translator, whose work has appeared in New American Writing, Hayden's Ferry Review, Barcelona Ink, Parentheses and Drunken Boat among others. He writes reviews and translates poetry and short stories for literary magazines and e-zines. He has been one of the founding members of Bonsai Stories, the blog directly linked to Planodion literary magazine. The blog is dedicated to Flash Fiction and work from many well-known writers from Greece, the United States and other countries has appeared there. These flash stories have been collected in two printed volumes so far and a special tribute to 9/11 stories has appeared in a third volume, in which Vasilis was on the editorial committee.
He holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary American Poetry and currently teaches Creative Writing, Short Fiction, and Audiovisual Translation. He is a faculty member of the New Writers Workshop and has organized their annual symposium in Athens, Greece in May-June 2022. He is also a faculty member of the American College of Greece, where he has created and teaches an Audiovisual Translation and a Creative Writing seminar. Moreover, he holds a permanent teaching staff position at the University of Patras, Greece.
His focus on human thought and behavior in his writings has led him to a Master's Program in Mental Health Counselling and he holds individual and group sessions with clients, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
