Welcome to the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI).
DFLTI is the only university department in Greece that educates and trains Greek-speaking translators and interpreters in English, German and French. Our students can also take courses in Turkish, Italian, Spanish and Albanian language and culture.
Ensuring its international presence through European and international research programs, DFLTI collaborates with professional associations and institutions that employ translators and interpreters, in order to bring our students closer to the professional environment of the field. Through the wide range of courses offered and the student exchanges abroad, our academic program further supports the abilities of our students.
Teaching and research at DFLTI covers a wide range of subjects providing the knowledge needed to deal with general and specialised translation and interpreting in the Department's working languages. By learning the methods and techniques of translation and interpreting, students are confronted with scientific issues by acquiring knowledge and skills in using tools to gain a comprehensive understanding of translation and interpreting by examining practical and theoretical issues within the political, social and historical frame.
At the Department of Foreign Language Translation and Interpreting we provide our students with opportunities to enrich their academic program. A series of practical seminars and the successful collaboration with the Panhellenic Professional Association of Graduate Translators and Interpreters of the Department contribute to an excellent education and training by integrating linguistic, intercultural and other translation-related and interpreting skills (law, international relations, economics, political science, cultural heritage, area studies etc.). This enables our students to further pursue a wide range of postgraduate programs not only in our Department but also in other university departments in Greece and abroad.
Aware of the uniqueness of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation, our students consciously choose to study in an interdisciplinary academic environment that opens up many prospects for their academic and professional future. They choose a journey full of adventures and reversals, continuing to do what translators and interpreters have done over time: to build bridges of mutual understanding and mutual respect.
