Welcome to the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI), Faculty of Humanities of Ionian University. The DFLTI is the only Greek University Department that offers a four-year high-level undergraduate degree programme in addition to postgraduate programmes that lead to an MA or PhD in translation and interpreting.
In our contemporary world, which recognizes and understands only what can be measured in market terms and inaugurates a neo-babelian vision of the one global language and culture, translation and interpreting are here once again to question authorities, negate certainties, and give prominence to difference as the features that unite us and beautifies our lives.
Today the need for communication and mutual understanding is more urgent than ever. We are all living in the same global village and we owe it to ourselves and the future generations to learn to co-exist, to understand and accept the “other” not because they are like us but because they are different.
In our department, we will not merely teach you to translate and interpret. We will show you how to travel and build bridges. Because how else can we get to know the "other" than to embark on a trip full of adventures and subversions? And what else do translators and interpreters do other than build bridges of mutual understanding and respect?
Bringing students closer to the labour market
